Aerial View of the Singapore River 1961

Boats, tongkangs and bumboats at the Singapore River, 7 September 1961. Loading and unloading of goods was brought to a standstill due to the strikes by workers from the Singapore General Employees Union. The area was later cleaned up and redeveloped into an entertainment area which borders the financial district, and the tongkangs are now used to ferry tourists on sightseeing cruises.
