Chris Conn [77] expertly manoeuvred the Range Hairpin on his Norton Manx during the 1963 Grand Prix at the Upper Thomson Road Circuit. He competed the previous year but dropped out due to heat exhaustion. He famously returned for the 1963 race and beat the extreme heat by ‘inserting ice cubes into his jacket’. He won first place, beating popular Japanese rider Fumio Ito. That victory cemented his legend in Singapore motorsport history.
