Conserved Kiew Lee Tong Temple at Upper Thompson 1979

The Kiew Lee Tong Temple is a Hokkien Taoist temple of the Henghwa community at Upper Thompson Road. It is well-known for the "Appeasement of Spirits Ritual" held once every decade during the Hungry Ghost Festival involving Taoist and Buddhist priests, and opera actors. This ritual started after the Second World War when thousands of local Chinese were massacred during the Japanese 'Sook Ching' exercises. It was gazetted for conservation in 2014.
