Diesel-Powered Barges Bid Farewell to the River 2008
With the Marina Barrage, the Singapore River has formed a freshwater lake connecting to Marina Bay. Due to concerns over water quality and environmental pollution, all barges operating on the Singapore River transitioned from diesel to electricity since 2008.
