National Day was celebrated on 3 June between 1960 to 1963, to mark Singapore's self-governance from the British Empire in 1959. In 1964, Singapore once again celebrated National Day on 3 June, albeit in a different context, having joined the Federation of Malaysia on 16 September 1963. From 1965, since Singapore gained full independence, National Day is celebrated on 9 August.
