Featuring tongkangs lining the Singapore River in 1955. The former Marine Police Station at Empress Place is situated along the Singapore River (bottom right). It was where people could seek help regarding marine crimes. This included the smuggling of illicit cargo, theft of cargo and fishing in prohibited areas. Today, the Asian Civilizations Museum stands in the historic spot.
