Seventy soldiers, mostly National Servicemen, cleared a 914m monsoon drain through Kampung Wak Hassan in Sembawang. Residents considered it an eyesore, so the Sembawang Citizen Consultative Committee organised a gotong royong project. Gotong royong is the kampung spirit of community volunteerism to help others.
