New Year Sea Sports Spectators at Clifford Pier 1953
New Year Sea Sports was a sporting event started by the European community in 1834, but over the years became a sporting event to celebrate the New Year. Other than the usual boat races, there were also greasy pole competitions and Malay koleks (sampan) racing.
