Gotong royong is the kampung spirit of volunteerism and mutual aid. 100 Punggol residents and 150 National Servicemen joined a Christmas Eve gotong royong to pave Jalan Payoh Lai. The old, eroded and muddy road was rebuilt to help over a thousand people from 100 families, and Pei Chai Chinese School.
