Formed on 25th February 1948 at a meeting at the Adelphi Hotel in Singapore, the Singapore Motor Club (SMC) was the first motor sports club independent of the Automobile Association of Malaya. In 1960, they successfully organised the Johor Grand Prix. In 1961, the SMC worked together with the Ministry of Culture, and brought the Grand Prix to Singapore.
