Thousands took part in the National Day Parade in front of the City Hall on 9 August 1966, which included representatives from the army, navy, police, youth groups, cultural societies, service organisations and schools. The parade, which assembled at the Padang at 9am, marched along St Andrew's Road and then proceeded along a route march which included North Bridge, South Bridge and Tanjong Pagar Roads.
