Aerial view of Yishun HDB town, 2011 Print

From plantations to a satellite town: The development of Yishun, seen here in an aerial photo, started in 1976 with the first HDB apartments built in the Chong Pang area. The town is named after Lim Nee Soon, a prominent businessman during the colonial period. The area was used to grow gambier and pepper, and later, rubber and pineapple. (July 23, 2011)
