Early HDB flats, 1961 Print

Rising from the ashes: Five blocks of flats, with 904 one-room units renting at $20 a month, were the first to open for victims of the Bukit Ho Swee fire. Then Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew launched the blocks, marking the first phase of the Bukit Ho Swee Housing Estate, a major public housing project by the newly established HDB. (Sept 23, 1961)
