The view from the top: Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay, Singapore's iconic home of the performing arts, fondly known as the Durian, opened on Oct 12, 2002. Built on reclaimed land in the Marina Bay area at a cost of $600 million, it features a 1,600-seat concert hall, a 2,000-seat theatre and smaller performing arts venues, including an outdoor amphitheatre overlooking the bay.
