Birds of a feather: Red-breasted parakeets taking over a tree at Choa Chu Kang Way. The species was introduced here in the 1940s through the pet trade, and its population has since become self-sustaining, with local breeding recorded. They can be found in parks, gardens and scrubland across Singapore. As non-native birds, the parakeets have been caught and culled. (Aug 20, 2025)
