Food on the go: Itinerant hawkers were a common sight in Singapore from the 19th to mid-20th century, peddling food, drinks, vegetables, poultry and sundries along busy streets. For many new immigrants, hawking offered a cheap way to make a living. Despite hygiene issues and traffic obstruction, hawkers provided the working classes with affordable meals. (Feb 25, 1960)
