Inspiration for all athletes: Singapore’s first Olympic medallist Tan Howe Liang won a historic silver medal in the lightweight division at the 1960 Rome Olympics. He also tasted sporting glory at regional sports games, adding to his impressive medal haul. He died of pneumonia on Dec 3, 2024, at the age of 91. (Oct 22, 1966)
