About This Image:

Hindu devotees took part in the annual firewalking ceremony, Theemithi, at Sri Mariamman Temple. Held about a week before Deepavali, the ritual honours goddess Draupadi from the epic Mahabhrata. Walking barefoot across burning embers, devotees express faith, seek blessings, and fulfil vows in a centuries-old Tamil tradition.
