About This Image:

Every year, the firewalking ceremony (Theemithi) is held at Sri Mariamman Temple on South Bridge Road. Performed on the Sunday before Deepavali, it is a ritual of penance or thanksgiving dedicated to the Hindu deity Sri Drowpathai Amman.
